The Argument Stated
Rather than looking at the existence of the Universe, this argument focuses on what kind of Universe exists. Briefly, it infers that because the Universe is a Universe that is filled with order and precision. Therefore, since the Universe has an orderly design, there must be some type of designer.
Then, we would ask, “Is the Designer intelligent or simply physical in nature. Or, did the Universe simply come into being based on random chance? We believe God is the Designer behind the wondrously designed Universe!
The Argument Applied
In the physical world, when we observe various things that have been made, we know that there is a designer behind all of them. For example, we look at a watch, camera or computer and we realize that someone had to purpose, plan and build these marvelous machines.
If that is so, then what about the Universe in all of its complexities? If the camera has a human designer, is it not reasonable to think that the human eye (more complex than any camera) has a Divine Designer? If the computer has a human designer, is it not reasonable to infer that the human brain (more complex than the greatest of computers) has a Divine Designer?
If these things are not so, then we are left with a situation where there is an Intelligence that has created the Universe and humanity, but we know nothing of it for none of us has directly observed it. Or, we are left with the absurd conclusion that we are products of unintelligent matter that just happened to come together by unexplainable chance.
The Scriptures
ROM 1:18 ¶ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
ROM 1:19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
ROM 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
