In answer to what is the greatest commandment, Jesus responds that loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself are the greatest of all commandments. Therefore, knowing how to love God and one another are of paramount importance to us if we are going to have eternal life. Since loving God is the greatest commandment of all, we should give our time and effort to learn and apply loving God every day of our lives. Contrary to many, loving God is not based on empty emotions but it is a learned response produced by learning of God’s love for us. It is the consuming commitment of our lives that leads us to reverently listen to and obey His Word, humble ourselves before God, seek His glory above all rather than the glory of men. Heart felt wholehearted obedience to God’s Word is the proof of loving God.
