Many denominations are filled with men and women who claim they can reveal the Word of God by The Holy Spirit. They further claim they can perform various miracles such as speaking in tongues, healing the sick and casting out demons. In contrast to these false claims, the New Testament reveals the nature, and purposes of these miraculous gifts. It also reveals that they were temporarily given until the word of God was completed revealed and confirmed. Now, we have the written Word to study and apply to serve God. These gifts were given to reveal the Word of God, confirm it and edify the early church. The Holy Spirit still works today but through the gospel as we apply it. He also still heals today but not by Christians performing miracles.
