The Church v2 7 Things That Are Expedient
In order for something to be Divinely authorized by the apostles’ teachings, we must have either a direct command, direct statement, approved apostolic example or necessary conclusion. We must never seek to follow things that are not authorized by His Word. But, there are times when, we do use aids to carry out things that are specified in His Word. These aids themselves are not specified but in our judgment they help us carry out the commands of the Lord but nothing farther. Such things we deem expedient, profitable, to our advantage, benefit. They include church buildings, baptisteries, microphones, pulpits, songbooks and so on. Even though we consider some things expedient, they must be lawful, not cause us to violate what is authorized by the Word of God. They must also follow other Scriptural principles. In this lesson, we explore what makes something expedient and what things must be rejected as not being expedients.
