Jesus made several promises to His apostle including the promise they would be baptized (immersed with power) with the Holy Spirit. This baptism of the Holy Spirit would be administered by God without any human intervention being involved for the purpose of the apostles being equipped to reveal and confirm the gospel, salvation through Jesus, contained in the New Testament. This happened in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost Acts 2. It was also prophesied that the Spirit would be poured out upon all flesh both Jews and Gentiles through the prophet Joel which began to be fulfilled in Acts 2. But, the fulfillment was competed with the household of Cornelius being baptized with the Holy Spirit proving that both Jews and Gentiles must be saved on the same terms through Jesus. Acts 10:1-11:18. Those were the only two instances of the baptism with the Holy Spirit that we see. There is no baptism with the Holy Spirit for all Christians. But, there is baptism in water for forgiveness of sins. Acts 2:36-38.
