Was Peter The First Pope? v2 2
On May 8, 2025, Catholic officials in Rome selected their 267th Pope, world-leader of the Roman Catholic Church, named Pope Leo XIV. They claim that Leo id a direct successor of Peter the apostle, who they claim was the first Catholic Pope, universal Bishop over all the church in the world. They claim Peter received from Christ unique special authority that placed him above the other apostles and all in the church. They claim the Catholic church is God’s authoritative institution over which the Pope rules. Are these claims confirmed by the Word of God? Was Peter the first Pope? If not, what does this mean for Catholic claims today?
