Jesus resisted all Satan’s temptations by thinking and doing what was right according to the Father’s will. In Gethsemane also, Jesus never wavered from desire to do God’s will even to point of death, no divided will on part of Jesus when facing the cross.

Many wrongly conclude and teach that without sinful desire, there is no temptation. Further, they conclude that unless our desires are acted on, they are not sinful. They further claim that Jesus was subject to all sinful desires because He was tempted in all points as we are.

Self-control is God’s way of escape. But what occurs when we yield to temptation? When we fail, we choose to take Satan’s bait by practicing sinful desires and behavior.

Christians must seek to endure temptation by choosing God’s way of escape through self-control by placing our mind and body under God’s control. Temptation occurs from without when Satan solicits us to sin and our response whether right or wrong is from within our hearts.

Some wrongly believe and teach that temptation does not occur unless and until we desire the thing by which we are tempted. If we do not desire it, there is no temptation. Temptations are presented by the Devil from without and our responses to them come from within, either resisting or yielding to temptations.

Do we desire to humbly obey the Lord or demand that He meet all our earthly desires? Do we want Jesus’ church to be the humble body of people that obey Him or a social entertainment club designed to fulfill our desires? In John 6, Jesus shows He was not willing to become the type of king the people wanted but demanded they must be fed by the words of life, the gospel.
